Jesus! Yes, the title of this painting is actually “The Last Supper”. The painting was created in Jakarta in 2005. The rooster played an important role in ditArdo’s imagination. Firstly, because chickens and roosters were omnipresent in Indonesia, and secondly because the question arose as to what would have happened if the rooster had not crowed in the morning? Would the history and fate of Peter and Jesus have been different? According to tradition, the cock crowed three times and Peter slandered Jesus. DitArdo turned the rooster into a DJ, and the story rocks to his music.

Another protagonist: Judas. Coming into the picture from the left, with his mouth wide open, he points at the three-eyed Jesus. Judas does this facing backwards, his finger forming a strong contrast in the backlight of the sun.
    In vino veritas est.

Three eyes see more than two, the cock crows three times, holy is the Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The painting was sold into an art collection at a wonderful exhibition at The Peak Bandung with introductory words by the very famous sculptor Nyoman Nuarta.

    30 years of comic cubism

To mark this occasion, the KAMADO B10 GERMANY manufactory is releasing this hand-painted Kamado Kubicom in collaboration with ditArdo the comic cubist

The Kamado KUBICOM is named after the Comic Cubism style developed by ditArdo, which ironically reflects the classical modernism of Georges Braque or Pablo Picasso and translates it into pop art-inspired comic strips.

The transfer to the three-dimensionality of a Kamado cites the totality of perspective that once made Cubism a revolutionary art form.

  • Schrödingers Fish

    Schrödingers Fish

The original sketch from 2017 already combined elements from the painting “Still Life in Dalmatia”, the first version of which was created in 1995, with almost naturalistic elements. This sketch of the three-eyed fish was also the origin of the painting Fish Vision and the sculpture Fish Vision 3D.

In this picture, naturalistic old-masterly painting style and comic cubism find a common path.

In conversation with the Stuttgart artist dietArdo, painting and sculpture – Marion Graeber in May 2021

Marion Graeber: “What does art mean to you?”
ditArdo: “First and foremost, I see myself as a painter. More precisely, as a draughtsman and painter with a tendency towards sculpture.
Painting is defined by the surface, drawing by the line and sculpture by the malleability of a material. Sculpture stands in contrast to the latter.

For me, art is the antithesis of the calculability of rationality and empirical science. The driving forces in art are intuition and creativity and the self-determination of the author or, if there are several, of the authors.

    Art is free.”

    Spring

Open the window! The first rays of sunlight push through the window and penetrate the room, the air is still cool. What a beautiful day!

The aesthetics of color have always been a strong driving force on my path to painting. Colors say more than 1000 words.

    Three come over a hill

By chance I dug up this lino printing plate again. I think the motif (plate mirrored here) fits in well with our times: “Three come over a mountain”.
This motif was created in the mid-nineties. At that time, I often commuted between Dubrovnik and my studio, which was still located in the tranquil Würmtal valley near Pforzheim.
“Drei kommen über einen Berg” humorously reflects the confidence to overcome a mountain that seems insurmountable with united forces.

  • Tatze the family dog

    Tatze the family dog

As I pull into the yard to park the car, I am greeted by the barking of a dog. I get out of the car and Tatze comes running towards me to greet me. We haven’t seen each other for a long time.

It’s been a few years now since I was commissioned by the art-collecting couple to paint a portrait of their family dog Tatze.

Tatze is not only a family dog but also a talented entertainer.

So, Tatze was able to fit in the moment when he had everyone’s attention. First he laid out his red play bone on the living room carpet. Then he threw himself backwards onto the carpet and began to rub himself against it. After a while, he jumped up again, ran to an armchair with a chrome armrest and then approached the steel pipe with his nose until it tingled. A ritual he probably repeated again and again.

As I watched Tatze like this, I decided on a comic-cubist depiction.

And just as I enter the house, Tatze greets me a second time, this time winking at me from the picture on the wall.

It’s a moving moment to see Padfoot and all the other pictures I once painted in the house. Beautifully framed and each in a special place, they are a collection of works from all the creative periods of my life up to the present day.

It’s good that there are art collectors and friends.

    The three hurried cows

The idea for this picture came from a mountain hike. A small group of cows were on their way to their home farm. They stopped on the village road and waited for a passing vehicle, then hurried across the road with swinging udders.

    This picture is still available.
